Helena Christensen and Christian Louboutin Covers AMAZING MAGAZINE | The Inaugural Issue
Helena Christensen wears Christian Louboutin for issue 1 of AMAZING magazine. Photographed at home in New York City by Alexi Lubomirski, the supermodel and photographer shares what she loves about her apartment of 21 years, the beauty products that have earned a place in her "bathroom chamber" and her memories of travelling the globe with her fellow supers in the '90s.
“I’ve lived there for 21 years,” says Helena of her city sanctuary, which provided the perfect backdrop for her AMAZING magazine shoot. “The apartment is a loft in a neighbourhood with apartments and brownstones, which is very unique. It has a terrace in the back and the whole place just feels like you’re in a country home. It’s quiet with only the sounds of birds chirping. [I’m] mostly a homebody, but I love that there’s so much life and action right outside my door. I love sitting at the bar in I Sodi, a small local Italian restaurant. Their food is amazing and the interior of the restaurant is right up my alley.”

Some of my favourite photos from our shoot with Helena are those in her bathroom; with products on every countertop, it’s reminiscent of my own, and naturally I need to know what the owner of such flawless skin is stashing in there. “Yes, my bathroom is definitely jammed with products,” says Helena, who wears the hat of creative director at luxury New York-based fragrance brand, Strangelove. “I’m obsessed with scents and anything that smells divine finds its way into my bathroom chamber. Strangelove perfumes are so unique as they’re made with very rare ingredients. We [Helena and Strangelove founder and CEO, Elizabeth Gaynes] make all the scents together, alongside our brilliant perfumer, Christophe Laudamiel. I use Augustinus Bader, SK-II and Joanna Vargas, and I love the beautiful organic products from Penny Frances Apothecary.” Needless to say, I will be adding all to cart immediately.
With over 30 years in the fashion industry and 25 since the New York Times named her one of the “Magnificent Seven” – alongside fellow supers Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Elle Macpherson – I wonder what Helena remembers most about those crazy ’90s days. “It was a very hectic and intense time, everything happened too fast,” she says. “Some memories only come back now even. But I remember the group of girls being very close and taking good care of each other, and I cherish all the amazing trips I went on.” Helena adds that the girls still see each other “quite often, we try to hang out whenever we’re in each other’s cities”.
Her female friendships are clearly important to her. “I’ve always had a little group of women in my life around me,” says Helena. “We stick together through thick and thin and help and support each other. Having close friends can be a life and mind saver.”
