Jenna Coleman Covers AMAZING Magazine | Issue 2

Jenna Coleman is navigating new waters as Johanna Constantine in the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman. Here the Victoria actor talks comic books, exorcisms and how Doctor Who prepared her for the DC Comics fandom.

“In terms of a female comic book character, I love the fact that she’s rough around the edges,” says Jenna Coleman, talking about her role as Johanna Constantine in the highly anticipated Netflix series The Sandman. “From Allan’s scripts she just leapt off the page and felt so textured, and layered; the cynicism, the wit, being such a lone wolf warrior, having this empathy and big heart, but having to not let anybody in. It really lent itself as a female role and I feel like, in the comic book world, there aren’t many female roles like that either.”

Lesley Manville Covers AMAZING Magazine | Issue 2

From a cleaning lady to Princess Margaret, there is no typecasting the multi award-winning actor Lesley Manville. She talks to AMAZING about flying the flag for the over 60s, the perils of social media fame and the transformative power of a beautiful dress.

Lesley Manville is a picture of elegance in a burnt orange linen trouser suit teamed with cream satin camisole and black high-heeled sandals when we meet at a central London hotel to talk about her new film, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris.

There’s a story to tell about Manville’s outfit, by Budapest-based fashion label Nanushka, that has charming parallels with the fictional Ada Harris’s quest to buy a dress at the fêted House of Dior in Paris. The actor first encountered Nanushka while filming in the Hungarian capital, standing in for the French city, and learnt that the founder Sandra Sandor was about to open a London boutique on Bruton Street.

Geri Halliwell-Horner Covers AMAZING Magazine | Issue 2

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner has always had her finger on the cultural pulse. Now, as she turns 50, she’s blazing a trail for older women – and is more committed than ever to empowering others.

Meeting Geri Horner (née Halliwell) for the first time is a disarming experience. For so many of us she’s an iconic figure: as one-fifth of the Spice Girls, the world’s most successful female group of all time, she is remembered as the boldest, most outspoken of the ballsy young women who brought girl power to the world in the nineties.

Sitting opposite me today, though, at an outdoor café in the grounds of stately Kenwood House, north London, is a low-key, thoughtful, incredibly polite woman. A youthful, almost boyish figure in white jeans, cream cashmere top, Alexander McQueen trainers (with chewed tongue courtesy of her rescue dog Daisy) and baseball cap, beneath which is tucked her trademark auburn hair, she passes mostly unrecognised by the other customers.

Naomie Harris Covers AMAZING Magazine | Issue 2

Naomie Harris keeps it real. The Bond actor may have Hollywood calling, but she prefers to live life under the celebrity radar, travelling by bus and sticking close to home.

Naomie Harris is extolling the virtues of hot water with lemon. She’s been drinking it for years and swears by its multiple medicinal benefits. “It’s good for digestion, your skin and helps all your internal organs,” she says, as she orders a steaming pot of said citric tonic at the north London restaurant where we’re meeting for lunch. “Just a little squeeze and a slice is plenty.”

Nutrition and health are two of the Bond actor’s favourite subjects and she’s both entertaining and knowledgeable about anything to do with wellbeing. “I am always in search of health, like that is my thing, I am just obsessed,” she enthuses. “I have tried so many things, I seriously could [write a book]. I am just fascinated.”
