Girls and Conversations with Friends star Jemima Kirke is back on the small screen in City on Fire, your soon-to-be new streaming obsession.

Jemima Kirke is at home in New York when we connect over Zoom, two days before her AMAZING cover shoot and shortly after a whirlwind of appearances at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. “My two favourite shows this season were Rodarte in New York and Courrèges in Paris,” she says. “Both because of the production. The clothes were great too, but Rodarte had that extremely whimsical effect where it was sort of like the Last Supper and everything was glitter. The music lent itself to that vibe as well. Then Courrèges seemed like they got the best lighting guy in Paris. The set was stunning, but it was just a white box with a centrepiece. The lighting changed as the models were walking, to sort of bounce off the metal on the dresses, and there was strategically placed smoke. I appreciate when a fashion show is more than just the clothes.”

The 37-year-old actor, artist and director found an unlikely front row pal in former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Lisa Rinna. “I didn’t know who she was until my manager told me,” says Kirke, sitting outside and lighting up a cigarette. “But she was just really nice and friendly. In Paris, particularly at Paris Fashion Week, it's not easy to find a warm and friendly presence [laughs]. I sat next to her at nearly every show for some reason and she was a delight, and every joke I made she laughed at, which always makes me feel good. That always makes me like a person.”

Kirke is gearing up for the release of City on Fire, the Apple TV+ adaptation of Garth Risk Hallberg’s best-selling novel, where New York University student Samantha (Chase Sui Wonders) is shot in Central Park. The resulting investigation into who was behind the shooting reveals how Sam is connected to a series of fires around the city and to the troubled uptown real estate family that Kirke’s character, Regan, is part of.
